A Proud Addition to Finland’s Hospitality Scene
Located in the Heart of the City
Finland, the land of the Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights, is renowned as the happiest country in the world, a title it has held for seven consecutive years, including in 2024, according to the United Nations’ World Happiness Report. Officially known as the Republic of Finland, this Nordic country is situated in the northeastern part of Europe, bordered by the Baltic Sea to the southwest, the Gulf of Finland to the south, and the Gulf of Bothnia to the west, with land borders with Sweden, Norway, and Russia.
Recently, NH Collection, part of Minor Hotels, unveiled the NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa. This new hotel, located in a historic building in the heart of Helsinki, marks the brand’s first entry into Finland and the second NH Collection property in the Nordic region, following the NH Collection Copenhagen in Denmark, which opened in 2021.
The NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa is housed in two historically significant buildings: the Art Nouveau-style New Student House, built in 1910, and the Seurahuone building, which has been serving guests since its original establishment in 1833 and relocated to its current site in 1913. Inspired by Europe’s leading hotels, these buildings have been meticulously renovated to preserve their cultural value while integrating modern comforts to meet the needs of contemporary travelers.
The hotel features 224 rooms and suites, including a luxurious 160-square-meter Presidential Suite. Located in a bustling shopping district, it offers easy access to cultural landmarks such as the Amos Rex, Ateneum, and Kiasma art museums, as well as numerous fine dining establishments. The Central Railway Station, with direct train links to Helsinki Airport, is just a three-minute walk away.
At the heart of the NH Collection experience is its distinguished culinary offering, featuring classic French cuisine and sustainably sourced local ingredients. The Hansa Café Bar & Brasserie is perfect for both tourists and locals, offering a diverse menu that showcases regional flavors. Additionally, the Kupoli Bar, located in a historic dome tower with 360-degree views of the city, will open in August 2024, providing expertly crafted drinks for an elevated cocktail experience.
The hotel’s spa services reflect traditional Finnish wellness practices, modernized for today’s guests. Facilities include Finnish steam and infrared saunas and a 300-square-meter fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment and professional treatment options.
NH Collection Helsinki Grand Hansa also offers over 700 square meters of event space, equipped with the latest technology, making it an ideal venue for various events. The historic ballroom has hosted high-profile gatherings since the early 20th century.
Helsinki, with its 131-kilometer-long coastline, boasts 40% of its area as parks and natural spaces, blending urban diversity with natural beauty. Two national parks are easily accessible from the hotel, open year-round for visitors of all ages to enjoy fresh air and stunning views. Guests can also explore the city’s islands, unique architecture, cultural attractions, and local delicacies in charming cafés or indulge in Michelin-starred dining experiences.
