SHINSEN’s New Look – A Fresh Take on Japanese Seafood

For seafood lovers, SHINSEN is now more than just a market—it is a complete Japanese dining destination. Located in Sukhumvit Soi 39, just across from its original spot, the newly revamped Alive-Style Dining concept offers the freshest Taraba crab, Canadian lobster, and premium shellfish, all kept in Live Tanks for a true ocean-to-table experience.

The King of Taraba – A Signature Experience

The Taraba crab, also known as Emperor Crab or Hokkaido Giant Crab, is a must-try for its large size, firm texture, and naturally sweet flavor. At SHINSEN, it takes center stage under the theme “King of Taraba.”

Taking a photo with the live crabs has become a signature experience at the restaurant. Each crab comes with an ID number and certification, allowing diners to track how many have been served. SHINSEN has already reached over 50,000 crabs, a testament to its popularity.

The New SHINSEN – Fresh, Premium, and Live

The redesigned space is modern, airy, and well-organized, featuring dedicated zones for teppanyaki, sushi, and a Live Tank area showcasing Taraba crabs, Canadian lobsters, Japanese oysters, abalone, scallops, and geoduck clams.

True to its name, which means “fresh,” SHINSEN ensures every ingredient meets the highest quality standards. Taraba crabs start at 2 kilograms, with the largest ever served weighing 4.5 kilograms. Steamed to perfection, they are paired with a rich, dark green dipping sauce for an unforgettable seafood experience.

Beyond Crab – SHINSEN’s Must-Try Dishes

  • Canadian Lobster – Available in L, XL, and Jumbo sizes, ranging from 1.5 to 2 kilograms. Enjoy it as Lobster Pad Thai, Lobster Thermidor, or Garlic Butter Baked Lobster.
  • Taraba Kanimiso Gohan – Stone-fried rice with crab miso, cooked tableside. Enjoy it two ways—on its own or mixed with broth for a rich miso crab porridge.
  • Nijo Sashimi Set – A premium assortment of over 15 types of sashimi, featuring Maguro (tuna), Hamachi, Uni (sea urchin), and Salmon.

Mastering the Art of Sashimi and Abalone

Sashimi may seem simple, but precision in filleting fish and the Ikejime technique ensures the best texture and flavor. At SHINSEN, every cut is handled with expert care to maintain its natural umami.

For shellfish enthusiasts, Ezo Awabi Sumimiyaki is a must. This Japanese abalone, revered as the king of shellfish, is commonly featured in omakase experiences. Here, it is steamed and served with its own liver sauce, enhancing its naturally rich flavor. Another preparation includes serving it over warm Japanese rice with the same flavorful sauce.

Bowls, Rolls, and Late-Night Comfort Food

  • Shinsen Kobore – A sushi bowl layered with ten premium toppings, including tuna, salmon, hamachi, abalone, sea urchin, and crab.
  • Unagi Don – A generous serving of grilled eel glazed with a flavorful sauce over warm Japanese rice.
  • Gohan no Otomo Set – A late-night dashi rice porridge set with six side dishes, such as pickled vegetables, crispy stingray fin, soy-marinated egg, and stir-fried pork.
  • Sushi Hand Roll – A balance of fresh seafood, seasoned rice, and rich sauce, all wrapped in crispy seaweed.

Grilled, Skewered, and Hot Pot Specials

The menu extends beyond sushi, offering a variety of grilled dishes like asparagus-wrapped bacon and snow fish with young garlic shoots. Japanese hot pots (nabe) are also available, making them perfect for a comforting meal.

Desserts and Drinks

End your meal with Tofu Blancmange, a silky tofu pudding topped with roasted soybean powder and caramelized sugar. Pair your meal with a selection of draft beer, sake, shochu, cocktails, and mocktails for the perfect dining experience.
