El Capricho Steak, also known as ‘El Capricho Beef,’ hails from the town of Jimenez de Jamuz, in the northern region of Spain. It has garnered praise from esteemed publications like The Times, The Guardian, The New York Times, Stern (Germany), and many more, often being referred to as the finest steak dining destination globally.
unique origin. It’s situated on a small farm in the village of Jimenez de Jamuz, owned by Jose Gordon. The farm specializes in breeding native Iberian cattle and features a rustic cave-turned-restaurant. After touring the farm, diners can enjoy their steak in the cave, cooked over oak wood and paired with Spanish red wine.
Jose Gordon, the owner, is passionate about his cattle. He raises them with meticulous care and devotion, taking 15 years to achieve the ideal height of 7 feet and a weight of 1,400 kilograms per cow. The dry-aging process occurs in controlled temperature rooms for 100-180 days, enhancing the steak’s flavor and tenderness.
The cattle are fed with fresh grass and forage, and the farm’s investment in them is substantial, with each cow costing over 3,000 euros per year due to the extensive care provided.
El Capricho is also famous for its connection to renowned architect Antoni Gaudi, who designed a villa for a wealthy Catalan in Cantabria, naming it ‘El Capricho’ – the same name as the steak. This villa is now a museum and a testament to Gaudi’s brilliance.
