Celebrate Oktoberfest: A Toast to German Beer and Sausages!

Experience the Authentic Taste of Germany’s Beer and Bratwurst at Oktoberfest 2023!

Oktoberfest is the lively celebration of beer, sausages, and all things German, and it’s the perfect way to enjoy the cool, crisp October weather. While traditionally held in Munich, Bavaria, the spirit of Oktoberfest has spread far and wide, and you can join in the fun right here in Bangkok.

Oktoberfest Timeline:

October 12, 1810: Oktoberfest was first celebrated to honor the royal wedding of King Ludwig I of Bavaria to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. It was a five-day festival that began with a grand horse race.

October 1811: The celebration returned, and an agricultural fair was added.

1818: Oktoberfest became an annual event with food and drink vendors.

Late 20th Century: The fair’s food booths transformed into large beer tents made of plywood. The Munich breweries introduced new beer varieties, and the event became more of a beer festival.

1985: Oktoberfest celebrated its 175th anniversary with more than 7.1 million visitors.

Oktoberfest is a grand celebration of beer, renowned throughout Europe, attracting tourists from all over the world. Each year, visitors come to savor the taste of traditional German sausages, pork knuckles, and enjoy live concerts.

Approximately 75,800 hectoliters (about 2 million gallons) of beer are consumed, with various breweries proudly presenting new beer flavors. Attendees often dress in traditional Bavarian clothing, witness folk dances, marvel at horse-drawn parades, compete in games, and, of course, enjoy copious amounts of beer.

Despite its European roots, Oktoberfest has become a worldwide celebration, attracting over six million people each year. In 2020, the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in 2023, it’s set to return with festivities taking place from September 16th to October 3rd.

While the original Oktoberfest is in Munich, you can celebrate Oktoberfest right here in Thailand with a variety of German sausages, pork knuckles, pretzels, and more. Cheers to a grand celebration of German culture and the love of good food and beer!
