Inspiring Youth to Pursue Art
In the vibrant world of art, colored by imagination, the dreams of young people aspiring to join in with a love for art continue to shine brightly. The UOB Art Roadshow, organized by UOB Thailand, aims to bridge these dreams with reality.
Celebrating its 15th year of supporting Thai art, UOB Thailand’s latest art roadshow follows the theme “Art Beyond.” This event not only provides a platform for successful artists to share their experiences with young enthusiasts but also fosters an understanding of art’s power to reflect society and drive creative change.
The UOB Art Roadshow will visit 20 educational institutions across the country from June to July 2024. The program includes creative talks by renowned professional artists such as Ms. Prachaya Charernsuk, the winner of the UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand) and the UOB Southeast Asian Painting of the Year 2023; Mr. Santiphap Pengsuay, the winner of the Most Promising Artist of the Year in the Emerging Artist category at the UOB Painting of the Year (Thailand) 2023; and Ms. Wanda Jaima, an emerging artist known for her socially reflective works with a playful twist.
These senior artists will take turns sharing their experiences, inspirations, and creative processes, and they will also conduct art workshops to encourage young artists to express themselves more confidently through their work.
At Bangkok Thonburi University, Ms. Prachaya engaged in a vibrant discussion with students from the Faculty of Fine Arts, attracting a diverse audience of over 93 Thai and Chinese students, as well as hearing-impaired students with sign language interpreters.
Ms. Prachaya shared her tips for gaining recognition, such as showcasing creative works on social media, consistently building a portfolio, and seeking out free exhibition spaces like the People’s Gallery. She emphasized the importance of participating in national art competitions judged by esteemed professionals, which can boost an artist’s confidence and credibility.
“For over 15 years, we have supported the growth of Thai artists and the art industry in the region. We clearly see that art is more than beauty; it elevates the spirit, connects communities, and drives significant social change. We hope to create an inspiring exchange platform for young people passionate about art, nurturing the seeds of creativity to fuel future societal transformations,” said Ms. Thammarat Olarnhankit, Assistant Executive Vice President, Corporate Communications and Image Management, UOB Thailand, highlighting the essence of the Art Roadshow.
Students and interested individuals can submit their works for the 15th UOB Painting of the Year competition through the e-submission system at www.uob.co.th/poy from now until July 31, 2024. The award ceremony will be held on October 15, 2024, with the winner of the Emerging Artist category receiving a cash prize of 125,000 baht.
