This year, coinciding with the year 2024, marks the centennial anniversary of the birth of Jin Yong, also known as Dr. Louis Cha. Born on March 10, 1924 in Zhejiang Province, China, Jin Yong was the second son of a prestigious family. His educational journey began in 1929 at Jiaxing Haining Elementary School in Zhejiang Province. In 1944, he pursued foreign language studies at the National Central University and later studied law at Soochow University in Shanghai in 1946.
In 2005, Jin Yong earned a doctoral degree in jurisprudence from Cambridge University and pursued a doctoral degree in Chinese history at St. John’s College, Cambridge University, specializing in Chinese literature. In 2013, he was awarded a doctoral degree in Chinese literature from Peking University.
Beyond his acclaim as a prolific martial arts novelist, Jin Yong’s works often subtly critique political systems, particularly monarchy, communism, and Han nationalism. He owned and managed his own newspaper, Ming Pao.
Jin Yong was renowned as an avid reader from a young age, delving into both Chinese and translated foreign novels since the age of nine. His youthful literary adventures included classic Chinese works such as “Romance of the Three Kingdoms,” “Water Margin,” “Journey to the West,” and “Dream of the Red Chamber.”
Jin Yong passed away on October 30, 2561 BE, at the age of 94 years, 7 months, and 20 days. Throughout his life, Jin Yong crafted 15 martial arts novels and created over 1,400 characters. His outstanding works have sold over 100 million copies worldwide and have been translated into more than 14 languages, resonating deeply with themes of humanism, society, and art. Jin Yong’s novels not only captivate readers but also wield significant influence on the global literary landscape, solidifying his legacy as a classic figure in both Chinese and international literature.

Immersive Exhibitions for Fans of Jin Yong’s “Legend of the Condor Heroes” and “The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber”
The exhibition “A Path to Glory – Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial • The World of Wuxia” will take place at Edinburgh Place in the Central District from March 15 to July 2, 2024, with free admission.
Inspired by “The Eagle-Shooting Heroes,” this immersive diorama allows visitors to delve into the world of Wuxia through multilingual narration and AR technology, seamlessly blending reality with virtuality at “A Path to Glory – Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial • The World of Wuxia.”
Ren Zhe, a renowned sculptor, brings to life 22 iconic characters from Jin Yong’s masterpieces, including Yang Guo and Xiaolongnu from “The Giant Eagle and its Companion,” Guo Jing and Huang Rong from “The Eagle-Shooting Heroes.”
The exhibition “A Path to Glory – Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial, Sculpted by Ren Zhe” will debut at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum on March 15, 2567, and will be open to the public for free from March 16 to October 7, 2567. Ren Zhe’s sculptures feature characters from 5 of Jin Yong’s works, totaling 22 figures, including Xiaolongnu, Guo Jing, Huang Rong, Ouyang Feng, Wang Chongyang, Hong Qigong, Yi Deng, Huang Yaoshi, Dongfang Bubai, Ren Woxing, Linghu Chong, Ren Yingying, Feng Qingyang, Zhang Wuji, and The Four Guardian Kings from “The Heaven Sword and the Dragon Sabre,” as well as Xiao Feng, Xu Zhu, and Duan Yu from “The Demi-Gods and the Semi-Devils.” In addition to the sculptures, the exhibition will feature seminars, panel discussions, immersive art displays, and valuable artworks by renowned artists.
