Running Shoes: More Important Than You Think!!
Running: Did you know that running shoes are more crucial than we often realize? When it comes to health, Ticy City asserts that exercise is often the first thing people consider, especially running.
Although there are various exercise options available today, running remains one of the most popular choices. It’s easy, uncomplicated, requires minimal equipment, and can be done daily.
According to a recent survey by Thai Health Promotion Foundation, people are increasingly turning to exercise, with cardiovascular workouts being the most popular choice, accounting for up to 86%. Among these, running stands out as a favorite.
However, despite its simplicity, running carries the risk of injury. Many suffer from falls, twists, accidents, or muscle strain due to improper technique.
One commonly overlooked aspect is wearing the wrong type of shoes, especially among runners. Dr. Patarapon Atimetin, or Dr. Pep, an expert in medical rehabilitation and Running Analysis at the Running Clinic of Samitivej Hospital, Sukhumvit, emphasizes the importance of wearing the right type of running shoes. Not only do they enhance running efficiency, but they also prevent various running-related injuries.
“People often underestimate the importance of running shoes, perhaps thinking that any type will do. However, each type of shoe is engineered differently. For instance, running shoes are designed to provide stability and absorb impact, while basketball shoes are designed to support jumping and quick movements. Tennis shoes, on the other hand, focus on lateral movement. Each type of shoe has its own injury-prevention technology. Therefore, wearing the wrong type of shoes for running can lead to injuries.”
Dr. Pep further explains that one of the most common injuries among runners is patellar tendinitis, often caused by wearing unsupportive shoes and running with improper form. This injury, along with others like shin splints and plantar fasciitis, can be prevented and treated by wearing appropriate running shoes and running within a suitable range.
Regarding the selection of running shoes, Dr. Pep recommends trying them on before purchasing. “It’s best to try running in the shoes for about a kilometer, whether on a treadmill or on a track, as shoes should be tested before buying. If they feel comfortable, not too tight, and provide adequate support, they’re the best choice.”
One brand that emphasizes this is Adidas, which recently allowed enthusiasts to try the SUPERNOVA RISE running shoes for free. By registering online and picking up the shoes at selected Lock Box locations, individuals could test their performance and experience the soft, bouncy comfort for up to five days.
