Light and Digital Art Festival
For those who enjoy Night Light experiences, don’t miss Bangkok’s annual light and digital art festival, Awakening Bangkok 2024: Reignite the District, Inspire the People, lighting up Phra Nakhon with creative brilliance. Ticy City guarantees it’s spectacular and stylish, running from November 8-17, 2024—so there’s still time to catch it!
The event is organized by the Awakening Festivals team, in partnership with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), Toyota Motor Thailand, Schweppes, Marimekko Thailand, SEE FAH, and numerous public and private partners. It’s a multi-sector collaboration creating a vibrant lighting phenomenon with Awakening Bangkok 2024, once again brightening up Phra Nakhon with lights of inspiration and creativity under the theme “One Light, One Rises | Reignite the District, Inspire the People.”
Ticy City assures that Bangkok’s annual light and digital art festival, Awakening Bangkok 2024, now in its seventh year, returns under the theme “One Light, One Rises | Reignite the District, Inspire the People.” Bringing life back to the old neighborhoods, it inspires people and builds upon the success of 2023, where it was also held in Phra Nakhon for the second consecutive year. Featuring 36 light and digital artworks, it promises to dazzle both Thai and international visitors.
Once again, Awakening Bangkok 2024 is a powerful example of public and private collaboration, transforming the heart of Bangkok with a light festival that enlivens the city and boosts both micro- and macro-economic activity, especially in Phra Nakhon. The festival not only draws in more tourists but also boosts local spending, showcasing the limitless reach of art to connect people.
Pongsiri Hetrakul, Festival Director of Awakening, shared: “We believe light and digital art can not only revive old neighborhoods but also inspire people. That’s why Awakening Bangkok 2024 returns with the theme ‘One Light, One Rises | Reignite the District, Inspire the People,’ marking the seventh edition and the second year in Phra Nakhon. Last year’s routes along Sanam Chai, Bamrung Muang, and Fueng Nakhon streets exceeded expectations, drawing the highest audience numbers ever. This year, we’re expanding to Sam Yot with four connected routes, each telling a story under four sub-themes: Sustainability, Prosperity, Inclusivity, and Positivity. Featuring 36 pieces by Thai and international designers, as well as students from various universities, key display points include Yodpiman Riverwalk, Yodpiman Market, Museum Siam, Saranrom Park, Praeng Phuthon, the Bangkok City Hall, and Rommaninat Park.”
Bangkok Governor Assoc. Prof. Chatchat Sittipunt remarked, “Awakening Bangkok is a key city festival, helping position Bangkok as a world-class hub for arts and culture. It draws more visitors every year, driving the economy and encouraging cooperation between the city, local communities, and related agencies through creative cultural activities.”
Aachawan Kongkanant, Deputy Regional Director for Central Thailand at TAT, said, “Awakening Bangkok doesn’t just promote tourism in Bangkok as a primary destination; it fosters cultural tourism that connects history with the present. It also inspires travel and economic opportunities across all sectors and demographics.”
Puripan Bunnag, Deputy Director of TCEB, added, “Awakening Bangkok has a unique identity, presenting Bangkok’s character in a creative, accessible, and modern way. This year’s theme promotes inclusivity, aligning with TCEB’s goal for Thailand to become an Inclusive Destination. TCEB believes Awakening Bangkok 2024 will continue to boost the local economy and has the potential to grow into an international festival.”
Puripan further noted, “One of TCEB’s objectives is to elevate Thai festivals to the global stage as part of a national strategy to use cultural assets to enhance Thailand’s economy. Awakening Bangkok has tremendous potential, backed by public and private support, to create ongoing business opportunities and cater to new generations of high-spending travelers, making it one of Thailand’s most promising festivals with international appeal.”
Nattorn Sineeves, Assistant Managing Director of Toyota Motor Thailand, believes supporting Bangkok’s annual light and digital art festival will add even more night-time charm to the old neighborhoods in Phra Nakhon. Toyota will feature the new YARIS ATIV NIGHTSHADE in Cement Grey with a premium, sporty style, alongside the “NIGHTSHADE To The Future” light and sound installation created with “Saturate Designs” to inspire everyone to become a “Shade Setter.”
Chayaphorn Lathisophonkun, Senior Marketing Director for Coca-Cola Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos, representing sponsor “Schweppes,” shared: “Schweppes,” known for its distinctive fruit soda flavors, offers new, stylish experiences for those who enjoy socializing and adventure, making it a perfect match for Awakening Bangkok, a major festival renowned locally and internationally. Schweppes is thrilled to be part of this event for the second year, presenting two major display points to spark fresh inspiration and offering a new “Blood Orange Pomegranate Soda – Sugar-Free” for tasting. Schweppes will also host a special #BORNSOCIALCLUBPARTY from November 15-17, with two brand ambassadors creating joyful moments for fans on the final day, November 17, at Yodpiman Riverwalk.”
An exciting addition this year is the involvement of Finnish fashion and lifestyle brand Marimekko, whose classic Unikko flower print celebrates its 60th anniversary. Thanapong Jirapannichkul, CEO of Thanchira Retail Corporation, explained, “It’s an honor to join Awakening Bangkok 2024, especially as this year marks the 60th anniversary of Marimekko’s iconic Unikko print, a colorful floral design symbolizing the simplicity of nature and the rich culture and lifestyle. For this occasion, Marimekko has partnered with Alternate Reality Studio to project the Unikko pattern onto Museum Siam, reflecting the brand’s global celebration. This collaboration reinforces our mission to support art and culture, and I believe this year’s festival will inspire and offer new dimensions for everyone to experience Bangkok’s rich artistic heritage.”
Another main sponsor, SEE FAH restaurant, is excited to light up the Phra Nakhon district in collaboration with Awakening Bangkok 2024. Nitha Ratchayabun Nanthakwang, CEO of SEE FAH Group, shared, “This festival, which brings renewed life to the old districts, aligns perfectly with SEE FAH’s mission to bring color and joy to everyone. For over 88 years, SEE FAH has been a part of people’s flavorful lives, and now we’re delighted to add a fresh spark to Awakening Bangkok.
