The “Impact of the Animal Feed Industry” exhibition by World Animal Protection Thailand is now open at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, showcasing 30 innovative print ads that spotlight the environmental challenges linked to the animal feed industry.

This exhibit, part of the Print Ads Contest, drew entries from students and creatives nationwide, launching in October with over 200 submissions.

The featured Behind The Feed Print Ads presents 30 shortlisted works vying for 60,000 baht in prizes, with a judging panel of respected creatives and experts. The first prize went to Ariya Oung, a fifth-year digital media student at Bangkok University, for her thought-provoking piece “Oink Oink.” The second prize went to Chanin Chanthawong for “The True Cost of Your Meal,” and the third prize to Woraphon Suriya for “Assembly Instruction: Deadly Smoke.”

Rojana Sangthong, Director of World Animal Protection Thailand, explained, “For years, we’ve advocated for better welfare for farm animals. Industrial farming’s harmful impact extends beyond animals, affecting human health and the environment as well. Through this exhibition, we aim to inspire awareness and demand for sustainable food systems.”

A special seminar, “Inspiration: Creative Views on the Animal Feed Industry,” will explore the topic further with insights from creative and environmental leaders, discussing how the industry’s impact can be more effectively communicated.

Chokdee Smithkitipon, Food System Campaign Manager for World Animal Protection Thailand, shared, “The Behind The Feed exhibit illustrates critical issues in animal feed production, connecting them to PM2.5 pollution, deforestation, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Each of these 30 pieces speaks to the industry’s broader impact, pushing for societal awareness and change.”

Maria Poonlertlarp, World Animal Protection Thailand Ambassador, emphasized, “What we put on our plates affects not only our health but the environment. Issues like climate change are driven by the environmental toll of animal feed production.”

Thanaboon Sombun, CEO of Greenery and Creative Director of CreativeMOVE, commented, “Competitions like the Behind The Feed Print Ads Contest bring the animal feed industry’s environmental impact to life. Visual storytelling can reach people in ways data alone often can’t, raising awareness among the public and industry alike.”

First-prize winner Ariya Oung reflected on her work “Oink Oink,” saying, “Animals have no choice in their food, but as consumers, we can push producers toward more responsible practices.”

This free exhibition is open until November 3, 2024, at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre. Find more details on World Animal Protection Thailand’s Facebook page or website.
