The Helmet
Thai culture is set to take center stage at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2024, thanks to a unique collaboration between Monsoon Valley and Gongkan. The celebrated Thai artist has been commissioned to design a Naga-inspired helmet for Alex Albon, Thailand’s sole Formula One racer. And trust Ticy City—this is going to be extraordinary!
This initiative by Monsoon Valley is part of their “THAI PASSION, THAI PRIDE” campaign, showcasing Thai art on a global platform. The Naga design, a tribute to the legendary serpent revered in Thai culture, will not only symbolize Thai heritage but also highlight the exceptional talent of Thai people in both the arts and sports.
In addition to the helmet, Monsoon Valley is also launching a limited-edition signature grape juice and red wine to celebrate this momentous occasion.
The Naga design, a symbol of Thailand’s rich cultural history, comes at a perfect time, as the Thai government officially recognized the Naga as a national emblem in 2022. Having this mythical figure featured on Albon’s helmet is a bold expression of Thai pride on a global stage.
Gongkan’s Naga design is built around three powerful themes:
- Courage – representing strength, resilience, and unwavering confidence, pushing through all obstacles.
- Mystery – captivating and enigmatic, drawing people in with its allure.
- Serenity – calm and composed, radiating warmth and friendliness, much like the Thai spirit.
Varit Yoovidhya, Assistant Managing Director of Siam Winery Co., Ltd., shared his excitement about the campaign: “This is the first time Thai creativity and art have merged with the world of motorsports. It’s a special collaboration between Monsoon Valley, Alex Albon, and Gongkan. Together, they are putting Thailand’s best on the world stage, sharing our cultural pride with Formula One fans around the globe.”
Gongkan (Kantapon Metheekul) is a Bangkok-born artist known worldwide for his unique Teleport Art, with solo exhibitions in cities like New York, LA, Paris, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Bangkok. His work is celebrated both in Thailand and among international art collectors.
Meanwhile, Alex Albon, Thailand’s only Formula One driver and Monsoon Valley’s brand ambassador, continues to impress on the global circuit. His dedication and standout performances make him a rising star in the intense world of F1, perfectly aligned with Monsoon Valley’s mission to bring Thai excellence to the world.
In a move to engage the Thai public, Monsoon Valley is inviting everyone to vote for their favorite Naga design from three concepts. The winning design will be featured on Albon‘s racing helmet at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix 2024, scheduled for mid-September.
