Welcome to ‘Casa Mare,’ where happiness meets the sea. This charming seaside restaurant invites you to indulge in breathtaking ocean views and refreshing breezes at Cha-am and Hua Hin beach. Enjoy a delightful fusion of Thai and Japanese cuisine under the concept of “Favorite Feast by the Sea.”
Managed by Nunu-Wasuma Kanathanawanich, the heir to the founder of the Regent Hotel Cha-am, Casa Mare has been a beloved destination since 1982. Nunu-Wasuma also oversees the newly opened VALA Hua Hin – Nu Chapter Hotels, a stylish 5-star boutique beach resort located right next door.
Once a French restaurant and later a meeting space, Casa Mare has been transformed into a warm and inviting dining venue featuring earthy tones that perfectly complement its seaside atmosphere.
“Our building dates back to the 70s, and we’ve preserved the striking wooden structures while modernizing the space,” Nunu-Wasuma explains. “The original wooden beams add a rustic charm that you just don’t see in new construction anymore.” She wanted the restaurant to feel lively and reflect her personal taste—an ideal spot for enjoying great food by the sea.
Our menu is diverse, featuring Thai, European, and Modern Asian dishes, with delightful influences from Korean and Japanese cuisine. Dining at Casa Mare is all about having fun; it caters to modern diners who love to socialize over food and drinks with friends. Sometimes, you want to keep the good times rolling after a meal, and we’ve created a relaxed atmosphere where you can do just that.
“The flavors here aren’t strictly Thai; we have elements like lotus stem soup, three-flavor fish, and fried vegetables,” Nunu-Wasuma notes. “Many dishes incorporate a bit of fusion while remaining flavorful, such as yakitori served with papaya salad and butter yuzu scallops. They might seem different, but they work beautifully together for a delightful dining experience.”
Nunu-Wasuma takes pride in curating the menu herself, focusing on simple yet delicious dishes. “We keep the sauces light. Our grilled options, like yakitori and kushiyaki, feature shrimp, squid, scallops, and grilled liver and pork—similar to izakaya style, though we also incorporate papaya salad.”
She highlights some of the exciting semi-Thai fusion dishes, such as Crunchy Tempura—a layered salad of crispy fish and miang kham—or the Mamamae platter, which combines spicy Thai fish salad with pork cracklings and seafood.
“I encourage you to try our unique dishes like udon carbonara or pasta with clam sauce. I recommend the salmon pasta with spicy cod or cold pasta with scallops drizzled with truffle oil. Some dishes draw inspiration from both Thai and Japanese cuisine but aren’t strictly Italian.”
We’ve designed the menu to appeal to everyone, making it perfect for family outings. Whether it’s a fun meal with friends or a cozy dinner with parents, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
