Empowering Youth Financial Literacy

CMDF Partners with OKMD and universities to Launch Fin Lab

In a collaborative effort, Thailand’s Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF), in partnership with the Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) and Thammasat University, has launched the Fin Lab initiative. This program is designed to foster financial skills and knowledge, offering a valuable learning space for the youth.

Recognizing the importance of financial education, the collaboration under the 88 SANDBOX project is considered a significant step in advancing financial literacy. Fin Lab serves as a platform for young individuals, aged 13-18, in underserved areas, providing opportunities to enter regional markets.

The initiative, spanning from February to December 2567, involves experts from 11 network regions collaborating in a nationwide effort to empower young minds facing economic challenges. Mr. Juckchai Boonyawat, President of Capital Market Development Fund (CMDF), highlights issues such as shifting spending patterns, unnecessary debts, technological advancements, and a lack of understanding of emerging financial models.

Fin Lab addresses these challenges by laying a crucial foundation for financial planning and investment for the younger generation. Dr. Twarath Sutabutr, OKMD President, emphasizes the collective commitment of 11 network regions, aiming to enhance the efficiency of Thailand’s financial market system.

The initiative, spanning 11 months and targeting 3,500 individuals across four regions, includes seven key activities:

  • Introduction and awareness-building sessions.
  • Practical training programs in eight provinces.
  • Strengthening connections and disseminating financial knowledge.
  • Disseminating financial knowledge through Kiosk TV.
  • Aggressive knowledge dissemination through online platforms.
  • In-depth online training sessions (Fin Lab Online Bootcamp).
  • Training and team-building activities (Fin Lab Hackathon).

Dr. Twarath expresses confidence that this initiative will create awareness about financial management among children and youth, contributing to the country’s development. The initiative holds the potential to establish a disciplined financial foundation for Thai youth, ultimately reducing household debt in the future.
