Explore antiques, savor local cuisine, and reminisce
Local Cuisine
For those who love to indulge in local dishes, especially Northern Thai cuisine, Ticy City invites you to fly over to Chiang Mai, the charming Lanna land rich in Thai culture. Your destination is Yung Khao Lanna or Lanna Rice Barn Restaurant, a local restaurant where you can explore antiques, enjoy meals, and share memories.
Yung Kao Lanna was designed and decorated by Lanna architect Adul Herunya, the owner. The architecture, decoration, and atmosphere beautifully blend with the local landscape and vividly reflect the local identity. The design prominently features traditional rice barns and local wooden houses, preserving these old structures which are becoming rare in Lanna life.
Adul Herunya shared with Ticy City, “My aim is to preserve and develop the traditional rice barns and local wooden houses of Chiang Mai-Lamphun for future generations to learn from before they disappear due to various factors. How can we make old and new coexist gracefully? As a descendant of Lanna, I used my architectural knowledge to redesign rice barns and local wooden houses to suit modern use while maintaining their unique original beauty. This is how Yung Khao Lanna was created, comprising accommodation, a local restaurant, an organic vegetable garden, an outdoor activity area, a local goods shop, a small meeting room, and an antique museum. I hope this place benefits those who appreciate Lanna’s local essence, both in architecture and the taste of Chiang Mai’s local cuisine.”
All buildings at Yung Khao Lanna were constructed in the thousand-year-old area of Wiang Kum Kam in Saraphi District, Chiang Mai, the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom, established by King Mangrai in 1286 AD as a test city before Chiang Mai.
The food here is just as impressive as the ambiance. The restaurant offers a variety of local dishes that are a must-try, including Pla Som Thod (fried sour fish), Pu Ong (crab fat paste), Chiang Da Phat Khai (stir-fried egg with Chiang Da leaves), Larb Pla (spicy minced fish salad), and Chin Som Phat Khai (stir-fried sour pork with egg), among others.
Combining all these elements, Yung Khao Lanna is more than just a restaurant with delicious food. It’s a place of learning where visitors can “explore antiques, enjoy meals, and share memories,” as envisioned by its owner.
