Splashing Across Thailand – Thai New Year Celebration
Ticy City brings you the latest update on the “Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024” event, inviting both Thai nationals and international tourists to partake in preserving Thailand’s cultural heritage and enjoying enriching travel experiences. This nationwide event follows UNESCO’s recognition of Songkran as Thailand’s intangible cultural heritage on December 6, 2023.
Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports through the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the grand “Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024” is set to take place from April 11th to 15th, 2567, at Ratchadamnoen Road, Bangkok.
Featuring over 20 colorful procession floats, including representations of Buddha images and the revered Songkran goddess “Moho Thora The Wee,” the festival promises cultural performances by thousands of participants, showcasing the diverse facets of Thai culture and traditions. Additionally, Soft Power activities will highlight Thai cultural identity and present traditional Songkran customs from the nation’s five regions at the Sanam Luang Park.
In a bid to promote cultural conservation and enhance tourism, TAT is coordinating “Songkran Events” throughout April 2567 in various provinces nationwide. These events aim to boost tourism and distribute economic benefits to local communities. A comprehensive calendar featuring 93 Songkran event locations across Thailand, categorized into five regions, has been compiled to facilitate travel for locals during the Thai New Year.
The “Maha Songkran World Water Festival 2024” event heralds the commencement of Thailand’s elaborate month-long Songkran festivities, celebrated with fervor across all regions throughout April 2567. TAT estimates that around 15.03 million domestic trips will be made during this period, generating tourism revenue exceeding 52,500 million baht. Additionally, a 33% surge in international tourists visiting Thailand is anticipated in April, totaling 2,908,600 visitors and generating revenue of 131,992 million baht. This presents a golden opportunity for tourists to immerse themselves in Songkran celebrations spanning the length and breadth of Thailand.
