As Thailand’s digital infrastructure continues to expand rapidly, the development of skilled professionals has become increasingly crucial for the nation’s technological advancement. During today’s announcement, the Secretary General of the Board of Investment (BOI) highlighted how the growing data center sector has become a fundamental pillar of Thailand’s digital economy.
Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the Board of Investment (BOI) highlighted how the growing data center sector has become a fundamental pillar of Thailand’s digital economy.
“As Thailand accelerates its digital transformation, robust digital infrastructure such as hyperscale data centers is fundamental to enabling new industries and driving sustainable economic growth. The Board of Investment has been proud to support AWS from the outset of this landmark investment, and we are very proud of the collaboration. The Advanced Data Center Engineering Excellence Scholarship represents a crucial step in building a new generation of highly skilled engineers, ensuring that Thailand’s future growth will be powered by both cutting-edge technology and world-class human capital.” said Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary General of the BOI.

This initiative comes at a critical time as the country positions itself to become a regional data center hub, supported by significant infrastructure investments. AWS’s commitment of more than $5 billion to Thailand through its new Asia Pacific Region is expected to generate approximately $10 billion in GDP contribution and support over 11,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually across various sectors, including data center operations, engineering, and telecommunications. These developments underscore the urgent need for specialized technical talent to support this rapid digital infrastructure expansion.
Mr. Saji PK, Director of Infrastructure Operations for Asia Pacific, Japan and China at AWS emphasized AWS’s commitment to developing local talent through the scholarship program
Mr. Saji PK, Director of Infrastructure Operations for Asia Pacific, Japan and China, AWS emphasized AWS’s commitment to developing local talent. “As Thailand’s digital economy expands, developing specialized data center engineering talent is critical for sustainable growth,” he said. “AWS is proud to collaborate with KMITL to address this talent gap through our scholarship program, helping build the technical workforce needed to power Thailand’s digital transformation journey.”
The comprehensive program, developed in partnership with KMITL’s College of Innovation and Industrial Management (CIIM), offers students an advanced curriculum focusing on data center engineering. AWS has committed US$100,000 to support 16 recipients over two academic years. The specialized master’s degree program emphasizes sustainable design principles, energy-efficient operations, and the application of artificial intelligence in infrastructure management, equipping students with the practical skills and knowledge for the evolving demands of modern data center operations.

To ensure a highly qualified cohort, selection for the scholarship program is based on academic merit, a strong interest in data center engineering, and a comprehensive interview process. Successful applicants are expected to hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. The first intake of students for this Master’s program is scheduled for August 2025. The program is also actively developing partnerships to offer valuable internship and industry placement opportunities, providing students with practical, real-world experience and pathways to employment within Thailand’s burgeoning data center industry.
