World-renowned digital artist Miguel Chevalier returns to Thailand to present ‘Digital Art Talk,’ aiming to explore the possibilities of digital art in the art world.
Miguel Chevalier is a global digital art visionary who has been pushing boundaries in the digital art domain for over 40 years. He engages in co-creation, crafting interactive art-tech experiences that are both captivating and groundbreaking, like nothing seen before.
In collaboration with Siam Paragon and SCBX, Miguel Chevalier brings his innovative digital art to the SCBX NEXT TECH zone, where he will share his experiences and insights with digital art enthusiasts. The event, titled ‘Digital Art Talk with Miguel Chevalier,’ aims to impart knowledge and inspire aspiring digital artists.
Miguel Chevalier reflects on the origins of his digital art, saying, “I became interested in this field in the early 1980s when I was growing up. My friends and I were fascinated by avant-garde art from the Western world. Digital art was a relatively new branch of art back then. I saw the potential of using computers as a tool for creating art, and it was filled with possibilities. It was a kind of experiment for artists, exploring what was achievable.”
He encountered his first computer while studying in France at the National School of Decorative Arts. At that time, computers were a novel concept, and the software was limited compared to what we have today. He gradually learned and developed his digital knowledge over the years, and it has been over 40 years since then.
While technology evolves rapidly today, the combination of digital tools with artistic creation, whether drawing or photography, represents an art form that is easily accessible and interactive. Chevalier states, “Digital arts are different from traditional art forms like paintings, videos, or photography. People can engage with digital art; it responds to them. For example, when people move on a digital floor, the artwork moves and changes with them.”
Some of Miguel’s previous works include META-NATURE AI in 2023 in South Korea, A L’INFINI in 2023 in France, Digi EXTRA-NATURAL in 2023 in Germany, and DIGITAL MOIRÉS in 2022 in Luxembourg. Notably, his ‘Bangkok Illumination by MIGUEL CHEVALIER’ Magic Carpets exhibit in 2018 at IconSiam was highly intriguing.
This time, the presentation of his new works at SCBX NEXT TECH in Siam Paragon marks a fresh challenge. He states, “Art is complex, but it is something that can be perceived visually and expressed through artwork.”
Experience the work of this world-renowned digital artist in an interactive format and delve into the concept of ‘Digital Art Talk’ on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at SCBX NEXT TECH, Level 4, Siam Paragon.
