Understanding Erectile Dysfunction: Causes and Solutions
When it comes to physical health and sexual well-being, it’s crucial to acknowledge their significant connection. As men age, issues with sexual fitness become more apparent, especially when combined with an unhealthy lifestyle and lack of exercise. Erectile Dysfunction (ED), the inability of sexual organs to function normally, affects various aspects of life, including urinary continence during activities like coughing or sneezing.
At Arun Health Garden, our physical therapist, Kittit Sonjaijit, sheds light on ED symptoms and solutions, particularly for men, in this article.
//Understanding Erectile Dysfunction//
Erectile Dysfunction or ED, refers to the inability of sexual organs to function normally, whether during sexual activities or instances of stress urinary incontinence. This condition is often caused by weakened pelvic floor muscles, crucial for controlling erections.
//Prevalence of Erectile Dysfunction in Thailand//
In Thailand, studies show that over 52% of Thai men aged 40-70 experience ED, yet few seek professional help due to embarrassment or uncertainty. This can lead to stress, anxiety, social withdrawal, and even marital issues.
Furthermore, ED sufferers are at risk of developing chronic conditions like heart disease and high blood pressure in the future, affecting long-term health.
//Addressing Erectile Dysfunction//
Addressing ED involves targeting its root cause by strengthening pelvic floor muscles and increasing testosterone levels. Aerobic exercises like walking, jogging, or swimming for at least 30 minutes per session, at least 150 minutes per week, are recommended. These exercises improve blood circulation, testosterone levels, and overall sexual function.
Consistent aerobic exercise over 3-6 months, coupled with lifestyle changes like a healthy diet and stress management, can significantly improve ED symptoms and prevent future health complications.
While ED may seem daunting, it’s a treatable condition that shouldn’t be ignored. With simple lifestyle adjustments and regular exercise, men can enjoy robust health and fulfilling lives without hiding in shame.
