In celebration of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua (Rama X)’s sixth-cycle (72nd) birthday on July 28, 2024, a grand royal ceremony will be held to present the Kathina robe through a magnificent waterborne procession on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
The procession will showcase the majestic royal barge Suphannahong, accompanied by other ceremonial vessels, including the Narai Song Subhan from King Rama IX’s reign and the Ananthanakraja, which will carry the Kathina robe. A total of 52 boats will be organized into five columns and three lines. Traditional boat chants will accompany the procession, guiding the rowers throughout the event.
The ceremonial songs, composed by Rear Admiral Thongyoi Saengsinchai, will feature four verses: praising the King, celebrating the boat procession, blessing the Kathina robe, and paying tribute to the city.
This historic royal procession has origins dating back to the Sukhothai era and continues to embody the King’s authority and presence.
On this special occasion, a stunning display will unfold as the royal procession presents the Kathina robe at Wat Arun. The navy has prepared several ceremonial vessels, including four key royal barges: Suphannahong, Ananthanakraja, Anantakarnakraja, and Narai Song Subhan from the reign of King Rama IX.
The entire procession will feature 52 vessels, measuring 1,200 meters in length and 90 meters in width, with a crew of 2,200 personnel on board.
