A Collaborative Journey: Toshikazu Kayano and ASICS
What makes the GEL-KAYANO™ LEGACY truly captivating is the collaborative odyssey of Toshikazu Kayano, the visionary designer, and ASICS. This journey dates back to the late 1980s when the seeds of the GEL-KAYANO™ series were sown, well before the inception of the inaugural pair in 1993. Kayano’s muse for this iconic running shoe series was the diminutive creatures he encountered in rural settings, fondly known as “kayano.”
Unveiling a 30-Year Legacy
The GEL-KAYANO™ series transcends mere cutting-edge fashion; it is a testament to enduring technology. Before passing the baton to the next generation in 2008, Kayano crafted more than 13 models within the GEL-KAYANO™ series.

Drawing Inspiration from the Originals
The ASICS SPORTSTYLE design team found their inspiration in the original models that epitomized durability. In celebration of the 30th anniversary, they introduced a collection featuring the GEL-KAYANO™ 14 prototype. This collection received a premium touch, including designs from seven other models: GEL-KAYANO™ TRAINER, GEL-KAYANO™ 5, GEL-KAYANO™ 6, GEL-KAYANO™ 10, GEL-KAYANO™ 12, GEL-KAYANO™ 18, and GEL-KAYANO™.
Colorways That Narrate a Tale
The colorways in this collection take cues from the primary colors that have been an integral part of the GEL-KAYANO™ series throughout its history.
