Nara Group has given its renowned Ang Morr a stylish makeover, transforming it into a Hong Kong-inspired “Chinese Bistro” that serves over 60 classic Cantonese dishes. This cozy spot, nestled in the heart of Sukhumvit 38, offers a relaxed atmosphere inside a sleek white building surrounded by lush greenery. It’s quickly become a go-to destination for food lovers in the city.
The new look of Ang Morr fuses timeless Chinese design with modern touches. Intricate peony patterns decorate the walls and ceiling, and the restaurant’s iconic round glass mirrors preserve the essence of Chinese artistry. The diverse menu is curated by Chef Tui – Ansupachok Chankiew, who brings years of experience in Chinese cuisine.
Chef Ansupachok’s culinary journey started in the heyday of “cookshop” restaurants, where he first mastered Hainanese-style Chinese food with a Western twist. The rise in popularity of Hong Kong cuisine among affluent Thais led to the introduction of Hong Kong dim sum, roasted pork, and duck in Thailand. As a result, many local Chinese restaurants shifted toward Cantonese and Hong Kong-style dishes.
When Ang Morr first opened, it focused on traditional “cookshop” cuisine. Now, the restaurant offers beloved Hong Kong-style dishes that are familiar to Thai diners. The menu features everything from appetizers and stir-fries to soups, stews, main courses, and desserts.
One of the must-try dishes is the Stir-Fried Tofu with Salt and Dried Shrimp. A simple yet irresistibly tasty starter, the secret to its deliciousness lies in the delicate battering and frying technique, creating a crispy exterior with a smooth, soft interior. Another dish that’s popular among diners is the Fried Shrimp with Fruit Salad Cream Sauce, where large, firm shrimp are lightly battered and fried, topped with a sweet-savory cream sauce that combines perfectly with the crisp shrimp and fresh fruit. If you’re a fan of shrimp, the Garlic Steamed Prawns is another great option, where plump, fresh prawns are steamed with homemade vermicelli noodles and topped with a fragrant garlic sauce, offering the perfect combination of sweet, juicy shrimp and aromatic sauce.
For vegetable lovers, the stir-fried dishes are cooked over high heat to retain the freshness and crunch of the vegetables, Cantonese-style. Some recommended dishes include garlic stir-fried spinach, Sichuan-style stir-fried green beans with minced pork, and crab claw fried rice.
The Emperor’s Red Broth Fish Maw Noodles is another popular dish at Ang Morr. This luxurious dish features carefully selected fish maw served with noodles and the restaurant’s signature sauce, accompanied by fresh Taiwanese cabbage. The broth is simmered for 5-6 hours to create rich, deep flavors. Another standout dish is the Steamed Snow Fish with Soy Sauce/Lemon/Pepper Salt, where fresh, firm snow fish from Japan is steamed to perfection, offering tender, delicate flesh with a smooth, fresh texture. The Tenderloin Beef in Red Wine Sauce is a premium option where tenderloin is grilled like a steak, then stir-fried with a sauce made from whiskey and red wine, served with a fried egg and caramelized onions. For something more unique, the Duck Tongue Stewed with 10 Chinese Herbs is slow-cooked and infused with aromatic herbs for a rich, fragrant dish.
A signature dish at Ang Morr is the Roasted Duck and Red Pork Set, which features premium red pork marinated in a secret recipe and roasted to perfection. The crispy skin and tender meat are perfectly complemented by the juicy roasted duck, which is marinated with spices and roasted using traditional methods to produce a tender, flavorful result.
In addition to these main dishes, the restaurant offers other unique “cookshop-style” dishes like fried tenderloin salad and Ang Morr-style fried pork chop with pea pods.
For those seeking something different, Ang Morr also offers a selection of soups and hot pots, such as Drunken Chicken, Stir-Fried Australian Beef with Wide Rice Noodles, and Spinach Soup with Three Kinds of Eggs, which includes fresh spinach, salted egg yolk, century egg, and white egg in a fragrant garlic broth.
For dessert, Ang Morr has introduced the Golden Phoenix Tofu Series, which includes two delicious options. The White Jade Snowflakes is a silky tofu dessert topped with honeycomb and various toppings like ginkgo nuts, red beans, and job’s tears. The Blended Soy Milk with Honeycomb offers the perfect balance of sweetness. For a more traditional sweet ending, try Wopang (fried Chinese dates), Fried Milk, and Snow Taro—the perfect way to finish a meal on a sweet note.
